As we look to the future, we are seeking a motivated and capable Strategic Planning Officer to support the development and implementation of strategic land use and planning frameworks that guide our growth.

About the Role

As the Strategic Planning Officer, you will work closely in the City Planning team to provide professional planning advice and services in relation to strategic planning and manage heritage related projects and activities. This role also undertakes and supports the monitoring, preparation and review of strategic planning, organisational, technical and statutory planning documents relating to the Local Planning Framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation, monitoring and review of strategic planning, organisational, technical and statutory planning documents of the Local Planning Policy Framework

• Undertake research into matters relating to sustainable land use planning and development at regional, local and site specific levels.

• Manage heritage related projects and activities including the administering the Heritage Advisory Committee, community consultation and engagement, and preparing associated advertising, reports and briefings.

• Provide professional planning advice to internal departments, Council, and community stakeholders.

• Engage with State Government agencies, developers, and the public on planning matters.

• Support the preparation of Council reports, planning assessments, and submissions.

• Monitor legislative and policy changes and provide recommendations to align with current best practices.

About You

We're looking for a planning professional with a strong understanding of the Western Australian planning system, including the Planning and Development Act 2005, State Planning Policies, and relevant regulations.

To be successful, you will have:

• A tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, or a related field.

• Demonstrated experience in dealing with strategic planning matters such as local planning strategy and scheme preparation/review, planning scheme amendments, heritage, local structure plans, local development plans, and local planning policy preparation and review

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement.

• Relevant experience in strategic thinking, analytical and conceptual skills confidently to projects, tasks and problem-solving situations

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
